Laser energy is delivered through a small hand-piece operated by one of our laser technicians. The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the hair follicle and converted to heat. The heat damages the hair follicle while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. Your skin may be red immediately following the procedure. This typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours after the procedure.

Many people experience hair growth in areas where it causes them discomfort or embarrassment. It commonly appears on the upper lip, back, cheeks, fingers, feet, toes, chin or legs.

Apart from being unsightly, particularly in women, where it is deemed cosmetically unsuitable, the methods traditionally used to remove it, which are all temporary, can also at times cause other problems such as ingrown hairs, cuts, infections, or razor bumps.

Shaving, depilatory creams, waxing, or plucking are some of the traditional techniques used in hair removal. Other methods include electrolysis, threading and the use of prescribed hair-growth inhibitors.

What Is The Typical Course Of Treatment?

Depending on the amount of hair to be removed, you may need to be treated about six to eight times at approximately four to six week intervals. There are three phases of hair growth – anagen, catagen, and telogen. Only hairs in the active growth, anagen, can be successfully treated.

Your specialist will discuss the treatment with you and decide if you need a topical anaesthetic cream. The area of your skin that is to be treated will be scanned with laser light from the SCITON PROFILE™ system. Treatment time will depend upon the area to be treated. A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment. However, since the sensation varies from individual to individual, a topical anaesthesia can be provided. Let your specialist know if you are very sensitive.

Precautions:
Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before each treatment. Do not bleach, pluck or wax 4 to 6 weeks before and after treatment. Wait for tanned skin to fade before beginning treatment.

Are the treatments painful?
